11 Nov CCPPA: Pipe and Precast Showcase Plant Tour
Consulting Engineers and City of Ottawa technicians, inspectors, and decision-makers travelled to the MCON facility in Ottawa, Ontario on October 13 to get a behind-the-scenes look at the production of engineered, high-quality, performance-tested concrete pipe and precast concrete. Hosted by the Canadian Concrete Pipe and Precast Association (CCPPA), this event offered the chance to see nearby manufacturers and get knowledge from the precast specialists who produce the durable infrastructure products that support our communities.
The visitors were given a tour of the entire facility, including the areas where concrete pipe and maintenance holes are manufactured as well as a look into our quality control department. In the quality control department, guests had the chance to witness a 3-edge bearing test, which demonstrated the durability and strength of a precast concrete pipe. Additionally, they had the chance to practice placing a rubber gasket onto a 1200 mm maintenance hole before learning about the effective methods to install gaskets.
Following the tour, they were greeted with delectable food from La Bottega Nicastro and gathered in our newly renovated boardroom for a formal presentation. Through the tour, we hoped that the visitors gained a better understanding and benefits of the various precast concrete products, enabling them to select and specify these various products on their next project.
