Overview

CONCRETE FORM SETTER

Overview

This specialized carpenter builds and sets up forms made of wood, metal, vinyl or other material in the plant according to customer specifications (plans). They may use a transit and/or a measuring tape to square up forms. A string line may be used as a guide for setting forms and leveling forms or a laser level maybe used for the same purpose. The concrete form builder/setter will also have to brace forms to the concrete floor, as well as brace the internal core walls. The bracing prevents the concrete form work from wandering or moving when pouring concrete. Larger forms may be secured with bolts, metal brackets or other types of bracing.

Reinforcing rebar or wire mesh is needed in every structure, the form builder will asset in placing it as required. A hand saw or table saw is used to modify any wood forms where needed.

The primary responsibilities of the Quality Control Inspector position include daily product inspections and classifications, daily and weekly reporting, and regular performance testing and process control and adhering to government standards.

  • Report on product performance testing and process control, in meetings and written reports, including testing summaries and interim reports, as outlined in the CPCQA Plant Prequalification Program, and Compliance Reports

  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations to consultants, contractors, and municipalities as required
  • Assist in the interpretation of civil drawings and extract required information to use in the completion of estimates
  • Promote sales to existing clients and solicit new clients
  • Keep apprised of current events and trends within the industry
  • Contribute to the identification of new markets and potential new products
  • Work with outside sales staff to service our clients and firm up orders
  • Use of computer aided technology; MH Pro, Microsoft Dynamics ERP
  • Ongoing liaison and collaboration with the internal engineering and plant departments.

Qualifications
Education Required:

  • College Diploma minimum; preferably a graduate of construction engineering technician or civil engineering technology program or equivalent work experience
  • Courses in Business Administration would be considered an asset

Years of Experience

  • Minimum 5 years estimating and/or sales experience in a construction or related industry, ideally with exposure to civil field construction

Specific Experience

  • Self-starter and energetic with a sense of urgency and competitive nature
  • Solid business acumen with excellent negotiation, problem solving and influential decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop and maintain trusted customer relationships
  • Sales experience required
  • Strong computer skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint

SKILLED LABOURER

Overview

Skilled Labourers are responsible for aiding in all areas of the precast plant. They are responsible for collecting materials, assembling cages, setting up forms and concrete placing. They participate in general housekeeping and other various tasks throughout the plant. A high level of safety practices must be used at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Receive oral instructions to determine work assignments
  • Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials
  • Position or dismantle forms for pouring concrete
  • Transport raw materials, finished products and equipment throughout plant manually or using powered equipment
  • Assist machine operators, Crane Operators and other labourers as required
  • Bending of reinforcing steel for precast concrete structures
  • May assist with minor repairs and maintenance
  • Remove rubble and other debris
  • Clean and remove excess debris from molds and other equipment
  • Participate in daily Pre-Production Meetings
  • Complete Field Level Risk Assessments before beginning each task

Qualifications
Education Required:

  • High School Diploma

Years of Experience

  • Minimum 1 year Construction or concrete experience

Specific Experience

  • Experience working in a production line setting
  • Prior experience in a precast setting or working with concrete is considered an asset

Overview

Welders are primarily responsible for building and welding the wire forms that are used for concrete production. They participate in general housekeeping and other various tasks throughout the plant. A high level of safety practices must be used at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret welding process specifications
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic, full automated welding equipment
  • Operate flame-cutting equipment
  • Operate brakes, shears and other metal shaping, straightening and bending machines
  • Fit, braze and torch-straighten metal
  • Operate oxygen arc cutting equipment
  • Determine weldability of materials
  • Operate hoisting and lifting equipment
  • Operate previously set-up welding machines to fabricate or repair metal parts and products
  • Complete Field Level Risk Assessments before beginning each task

Qualifications
Education Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Years of Experience

  • Minimum 1 year to less than 2 years
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Layout forms

Specific Experience

  • Reading and interpreting blueprints and plans
  • Prior experience in a welding shop is an asset
