Overview

The primary responsibilities of this position are primarily working with concrete and reinforced steel for precast concrete structures. This is a demanding job that requires good physical condition and the ability to maintain high attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Collecting materials, assembling cages, setting up casts, and pouring concrete
  • Raking, tamping, and leveling poured concrete
  • Cleaning and oiling concrete moulds
  • Applying screed finish to concrete
  • Transporting raw materials throughout the plant manually
  • Removing rubble, other debris to maintain warehouse cleanliness
  • Checking finished precast for damage and defects
  • Assisting in minor concrete repairs

Qualifications
Education Required:

  • High School Diploma

Years of Experience

  • Less than 1 year to less than 2 years in construction or concrete industry

Specific Experience

  • Perform repetitive, physical labour for long periods of time in a dusty, dirty, wet and muddy environment

CONCRETE FORM SETTER

Overview

This specialized carpenter builds and sets up forms made of wood, metal, vinyl or other material in the plant according to customer specifications (plans). They may use a transit and/or a measuring tape to square up forms. A string line may be used as a guide for setting forms and leveling forms or a laser level maybe used for the same purpose. The concrete form builder/setter will also have to brace forms to the concrete floor, as well as brace the internal core walls. The bracing prevents the concrete form work from wandering or moving when pouring concrete. Larger forms may be secured with bolts, metal brackets or other types of bracing.

Reinforcing rebar or wire mesh is needed in every structure, the form builder will asset in placing it as required. A hand saw or table saw is used to modify any wood forms where needed.

  • Assemble, position and dismantle forms for pouring concrete
  • Transport raw materials, finished products and equipment throughout plant manually or using powered equipment
  • Bending of reinforcing steel for precast concrete structures
  • May assist with minor repairs and maintenance
  • Remove rubble and other debris from finished structures
  • Clean and remove excess debris from molds and other equipment
  • Participate in daily Pre-Production Meetings
  • Complete Field Level Risk Assessments before beginning each task

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma

  • Minimum 1-year construction or concrete experience
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Layout forms

Specific Experience

  • Experience working in a production line setting

HEAVY FORKLIFT OPERATOR

Overview

Forklift drivers are responsible for aiding in all areas of the precast plant. They are responsible for loading, unloading and moving materials throughout the yard and plant. They participate in general housekeeping and other various tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a variety of equipment to load, unload and move materials and products
  • Load, unload and move products and materials by hand, or with basic material handling equipment
  • Organize and maintain inventory throughout the plant and yard
  • Sort, crate and stack goods
  • Wrap goods
  • Weigh materials and goods
  • Store cargo and materials
  • Make labels and attach to goods

Qualifications
Education Required:

  • High School Diploma
  • Forklift Operator Certification

Years of Experience

  • 1 year to less than 2 years

MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

Overview

This position entails looking after the maintenance of the production equipment, such as control systems, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, forklifts, conveyors, sensors, pumps, vacuum system, planetary mixers, automated welding machines, steam generator, vibrators, pneumatic hand tools and reels in our plant facility. All personnel are responsible for general housekeeping and other shared duties in and around the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Set-up and maintenance of production related equipment
  • Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations and compliances
  • Detect and troubleshoot irregularities and malfunctions
  • Repair or replace defective machinery parts
  • Fabricate parts if required during overhaul, maintenance or set-up
  • Participate in the PM program
  • Adjusting machinery and equipment as necessary
  • Performing regular testing to ensure safe working order of all machinery
  • Reading diagrams and schematic drawings to determine work procedure
  • Install stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment according to plans using hand tools and power tools
  • Ensure safety devices are operating properly on completion of repair
  • Keep your tools clean and orderly
  • Keep a clean and environmentally safe work area
  • Keep a LOG and follow directions as instructed
  • Cleaning, lubricating and performing other routine maintenance work on machines

Qualifications
Education Required:

  • College / CEGEP plus 2 years relevant work experience

WELDER

Overview

Welders are primarily responsible for building and welding the wire forms that are used for concrete production. They participate in general housekeeping and other various tasks throughout the plant. A high level of safety practices must be used at all times.

  • Interpret welding process specifications
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic, full automated welding equipment
  • Operate flame-cutting equipment
  • Operate brakes, shears and other metal shaping, straightening and bending machines
  • Fit, braze and torch-straighten metal
  • Operate oxygen arc cutting equipment
  • Determine weldability of materials
  • Operate hoisting and lifting equipment
  • Operate previously set-up welding machines to fabricate or repair metal parts and products
