PROJECT DESCRIPTION

When tackling large-scale infrastructure projects, efficiency, durability, and ease of installation are crucial. This project involved a complex structure with intricate geometry, making it both time-consuming and challenging to form and pour on-site. Additionally, the installation site was in a hard-to-reach area with clay-heavy terrain, complicating the maneuvering of heavy equipment. Traditional cast-in-place methods would have been costly and time-intensive, leading the client to seek a faster, more cost-effective solution.

MCON’s precast headwall design offered the perfect alternative. While the original design called for a square headwall, our product features flared, angled sidewalls that more efficiently distribute and dissipate water runoff. This design not only enhances functionality but also optimizes ease of production.

This headwall is one of many from the product line MCON has developed to address common on-site challenges. Unlike the standard OPSD 804.040 headwalls, which max out at 2400mm and require cast-in-place installation—becoming increasingly difficult and expensive with larger pipe sizes—our design accommodates pipes up to 3000mm, ensuring compatibility with the full range of pipe sizes we produce while also mitigating the common job site difficulties of pouring in place.

Production was completed in just two weeks, and installation took only three days, a significant improvement over traditional methods. Despite the challenging site conditions in partnership with CORE Civil we successfully delivered and installed the structure with minimal delays.
